Pick the road that will take you out of your comfort zone. A couple of years ago I was faced with the decision about which college to attend. I was born and raised in Yorktown, Virginia, a place that is the epitome of suburban America.
The majority of my high school classmates applied to instate schools, Especially Virginia Tech. When growing up I was set on going to Tech because it had the only in-state Vet School and I had a growing desire for Veterinary medicine.
But I was raised by parents who, having the financial ability to do so, pushed me to look at out of state universities. My older sister went to Penn State and my family has a history at Ohio State so I applied to both of these schools, along with Virginia Tech.
The last school, The University of Georgia was honestly a random choice and one I thought of because the early acceptance application was so simple. Once I had all of these colleges set out in front of me I realized what I thought was an easy decision was actually a difficult one.
I was torn between staying in my comfort zone of high school friends, following family legacy, or making my own path. It is through this decision I have discovered that it is only through challenging your beliefs and expectations that you can discover who you are or what you want in life.
My career goals have also changed and I still question them everyday in order to discover what choice will push me to my full potential.
